    Re: Corals for T-5 Lighting??

I've got 2 4 footers now, I bought a fixture from my local wholesale lighting warehouse. It was 2 bulb strip light with a high output ballast. It was $65.00. I upgraded the sockets to Ice caps. If I got two more strips wouldn't that be the same as a pre-made fixture? The obvious down falls going this route would be 3 ballasts, 3 fixtures, three cords and heat from three ballasts. Oh and I made reflectors for both lamps.

It is important that each tube have a proper reflector. The reflector makes a tremendous difference in the light intensity that actually reaches the tank.

If you have a minimum of four 48" HO T5 tubes in good quality, high performance, individual reflectors, you should be good to go.

    Re: Corals for T-5 Lighting??

I bought 2 of the Ice Cap day light bulbs and it turned orange after 4 days. I also bought the Ice Cap pure acintic and it hasn't had a problem yet. I bought a Current SlimPaq DayLight and haven't had a problem. As always the Ice Caps could of been damaged. They make good products so I might try them again.
