A calcium reactor is very nice. It's one of the methods you can use to maintain calcium and alkalinity in your aquarium. Read this article by Dr. Randy Holmes-Farley for an explanation of the various methods you can employ.

I don't know what the word kasse means. I googled it and apparently it's German. Do you know what language it is? You aren't by any chance talking about Kalkwasser, are you? Kalkwasser is a German word meaning limewater (or chalkwater) in English.

Anyway, read Randy's article for a better understanding of this topic.

What calcium reactor would be recommended? I could start another thread, but thought I'd ask using this thread.

    Hi mlawson,

    Welcome to Reefland!

I think to better answer your question it would be best if you posted your aquarium size and what exactly you intend on keeping in it. If you are keeping hard corals and have difficulty maintaining calcium demands with water changes and two-part additives, then we can probably recommend proper size of the reactor. As far as brands go, there are so many on the market that it will make your head spin. I use Geo's calcium reactor for my 110g mixed reef.
    Here's a picture of it.

Very easy to assemble and dial in, I've been using this reactor since 04.
Having said that, check out our sponsors for more choices.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.
