Unhappy Another Mantis Shrimp Issue (should I re-aquascape)

150 gallon reef with 55 gallon sump
Setup=10 months

Mantis shrimp is having a field day on my snails and hermits. I think he has something to do with the depletion of pods also. Should I remove all rockwork to dismiss this vagrant?

Tried the stocking trick.
shrimp in glass.

Difficult to find him most of the time. When I do spot his blue/greenish body, its inside the bigger rocks which happen to be on bottom of the pile.

i would first try using a hawk fish and a dragon wrass. the wrass will rely move the sand around all day looking for thing and if he gets to big you can take him out. some people dont like them because the way they kick up the sand so much but if you get a small one you shouldnt have a problem i have hade mine in the tank about a month and he is one of the coolist fish i have ever owned

maybe a trap? they sell em or you can even make one out of a 1 or 2 litre plastic drink container all you have to do is cut the top, then invert it and glue it back on and put a little piece of shrimp or food in there. I have also heard of a high salinity dip, providing you know which rock the mantis is possibly inside and you can get to it HTH

If you can find the rock he is in I'd try removing that one rock. Also, sometimes these guys, especially one colored like yours, can bring a pretty good price at a LFS. A lot of folks like to keep them in separate species tanks. I've seen them being sold for up to $80.

yes i would try and get rid of him. the dragon wrasse will also eat your hermits so i do not recommend that since that is one reason why you want to get rid of the mantis shrimp.the easiest way would be to find the rock he lives in and pull it out and return the shrimp or sell it.

I was able to isolate the pc of rock mine was hiding in. I removed the rock and hit it with a good stream of RO/DI water over a bucket. He dropped right out! I also had a shrimp trap but the other shrimp kept getting into it instead of the mantis. Good Luck there pesky buggers
