Awesome!!! I skimmed the article Tim... Was there any data mentioned on PAR values compared to MH lights that you noticed? I'll read it closer later but at this point I'm extremely interested!!!
wow..that is very exciting. From what I read it appears it has no heat issues...sounds like the bulbs will be expensive, but the bulb life is much greater then MH's. The "spread" was amazing. Looks like a great advancement for the hobby.
Thanks for the post.
I swim with them, eat them, catch them, care for them, but never get tired of "them"....
Sign me up,where can I get one.![]()
When they come out with a higher K rating I will be interested,I do like the idea of good lighting running at cooler temperatures.
Plasma, the 4th state in the world been at the top these days... after solids, liquids, gases .. right !!!!
May wanna lore of the technology little better.. So guide me as its rocking the world these days..
Thanks for sharing it...
TIA.
Jms.
looks like someone developed one, i'd like to see a 20k kelvin one at 100%
but come on, 6 years on the bulb? sweet.
Seashine from Stray Light is the first commercially available LIFI plasma light for hobbyists launching soon
okay so.. the Seashine Lighting fixture from Stray Light Tech has a base price of $995.
Just figured id let you guys know, as it may be important to some people.
It would be nice if Sanjay Joshi would test these lamps. Apparently they're between 5,000-6,000K at full power. That's going to appear too yellowish to most reefkeepers without actinic suplementation. Maybe they will come out with some that are a little bluer?
More importantly, we would need to see a spectral distribution chart to see exactly what that looks like and where the PAR is located. And it would be very important to know exactly how much UV-A and UV-B we're looking at. If there is too much UV-B, and any UV-C at all, then they would have to be shielded. Looks like the fixtures I saw following your links were all shielded.
It's certainly an interesting idea.

Ive been reading up alot on plasma lighting technology, and it seems like a great idea.. again like you stated all the parameters have to be correct for them to be completely efficient. the price is one thing that does throw it off a bit.
Hello, plasma aquarium lighting is available at Chameleon Grow Systems - Home
Longer lifespan, less heat, less electricity and many other attributes.
Beautiful color temperature (5700k, the sun is 5780k for your reference) and shimmer.
Not trying to sound like a commercial but someone asked in the thread below where you can get these.
