Sorry to hear the bad news,I hope you can get the tank going again soon.
This might sound gay but I feel so bad everything had to suffer. There was nothing I could do, and to come home this morning to everything just dead sucked. So if and when I do it again, I will go bigger and i will have a generator for my house for events like this.
When I am ready again, I hope I can reach out and get some quick advice.
Example if I go bigger I will go with a different lighting system, and wonder if metal halides is the best and only way or is there good T5 lighting that work just as good?
Lighting is my biggest concern if I go bigger because my current fixture will not fit the lenght of my new tank.
Sump wise I am going to make it super cool and follow that sight I think Parrot used for his design. Going with skimmer, reactor and a section for refugium.
Thinking about doing things bigger is the only thing keeping me from getting too down.
Thanks for all the help, and you guys run an awesome site.
Not gay at all hoss, that's the worst part of having a system crash IMO... Heartbreaking, devastating, whatever you want to call it there's nothing that's going to make it any better other than starting all over. I lost everything I had, which was all freshwater at the time btw, almost a year ago last week in the big ice storm. We were without power for over two weeks!!!I am sorry for your loss, I know what it's like. Hang in there and don't give up whatever you do.
As far as the lights, I would say definitely on the halides. Alot of guys like the T5 setups and I think they are great on smaller systems but for the best coral growth and appearance, halides take the prize every time IMO. It's going to cost you more sure, both initially and in operating expense, but worth it IMO and I'm as cheap as they come. The only thing I would recommend over halides at this point in time would be a light chimney or some other form of natural, focused sunlight.
