Question Poll..How long do you run your skimmer?

Lately I have put my skimmer on the same timer as the actinic lights which is around 11 hrs. I did this after I noticed the Hi-Fin Carnail feeds only on the copepods in my tank. I had a brine net under the skimmer one night to see how many pods were going thru it. I was amazed. Now I know they were were going thru it, but wondered how many were caught up in the foam, I know the pods are prolific but still I decided to turn the skimmer off at night when the pods are swimming.

Along this vein I was wondering... the poll idea...

How long do you run your skimmer?

0/0. I just switched to a refugium 2 weeks ago and all parameters are fine. If anything gets out of whack, I'll put it back on for a little bit.

ReefHawk: very interesting concept. You should post it on Dr. Ron's Reef Central board and see if he would answer it.

24/7. The only time mine is turned off is when I feed golden pearls. I turn it off so the corals have time to catch them before the skimmer pulls them out.

Here is are comments made by some mebers a while back when I ran a poll with the same subject.

This poll, and the others, is still open for voting. I think an archived poll supplies great statistics for these types of questions.

Hi All,

On current system 0/0

Have one just in case though.

I might end up using it for oxygenation, i.e. backed down to where it doesn’t actually skim.

Regards,

Scott
