Post My tank survived a deadly storm

This must have been on the most scary days for me, and for the life thats in my tank, it started in the mornning, i woke up with ALOT of rainning, after about 30 minutes, i heard a big noise, and i decided to go check it out, turns out the Wall of the house next to me, had fallen down, a big part of it, and the back of the house was starting to get flooded, and with the weight of the water, it was obvious that the rest off the wall was going down too, if nothing was done, the problem here its that, the rain was so intense, adn the winds so strong, that we couldn't do a thing, the paths were all blocked with pieces of rock ( not live rock ) , and mud, the fireman's couldn't help too, because of the strong force of the water, going down the roude, heres a pic of what happend to the car Name: madeira02109762d5_.jpg

Now , the most scary part for me, the lights wen't out, all out, the equipment in my tank stoped working, for about 4 hours, less or more, i was thinking that my corals and fish would die, and so i decided to take some newspapers , and blankets, to see if i could maintain the temperature, at least.

I couldn't do anything more for it, and decided to go sleep, hoping to wake up by the sound of the lights turnning on, etc. and thats what happend.
I wen't to sleep about 11:00 AM, the lights wen't back on about 15:00. i was surprised to see they were all still alive, but very happy too.

Just so you know, even tought off topic, the storm killed about 32 people, and injured about 64 more people.

Re: My tank survived a deadly storm

Well you were lucky on the power outage not being too long and you living in colder climate. I live in Pittsburgh and two weeks ago we got hit hard with the 2+ feet of snow that took out the power lines for my area 160,000 homes for 4 days. My house went down to 38 degrees and my tank didnt have power for over 4.5 days.

Needless to say I lost everything and my 90 gallon reef tank was dead

So my plans are to order my new tank next week and start over with a bigger tank. I am definately going with 180 but may go with the 240 gallon. Price will determine the decision since the 240 is 8 foot long and would require custom lighting fixtures or double 48 inch fixtures for my MHs.

I am also getting a natural gas generator that will tie into my service line and will power the house in case this happens again.
