    Need starfish help

I have a burgandy Luzon Starfish, Echinaster luzonicus, and I can't find any info on this guy. I bought him on impulse which I know was a bad idea, but I don't want him to die. I've had him for 2 weeks, I just don't know if I need to supply him with food or not. The place where I got it said it just ate algae film, but I don't trust them. The only info I have found on it says that it is omnivorous in that it eats detritus. Anyone have any experience with this creature?

welcome to Reefland. Here is some info for you.

Luzon Starfish are reef-safe and colorful, making them ideal additions to a reef or community saltwater environment. Their bodies are vibrantly colored and have smooth legs. These starfish thrive in pristine water conditions where they will graze on leftover foods. They can also be supplemented with meaty foods like shrimp, scallops and brine shrimp.

Orange Luzon Starfish are colorful and reef safe. They will feed on detritus, algae and microorganisms. They may have uneven legs or varying numbers of legs due to their healing and regenerative capabilities.

    Species Name: Echinaster luzonicus
    Authority: (Retzius, 1783)
    Common Name: Red Star
    Range: Western Pacific Ocean
Natural Environment: Inhabits rocky intertidal areas
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 75 to 83°F (24 - 28°C). This is a nice looking star, and rarely seen in the trade. May feed on microalgae films, however, may not be trustworthy with small invertebrate.

To make sure it gets food you can put a piece of food next to him,if you have fish that would steal the food do it at night when the fish are asleep.

I've tried with an oyster, he just stays on the glass alot of the time. Should I put him in the sand and put the food next to him?

No leave him be,he's eating microorganisms on the glass.I would let the glass cleaning go for as long as you can stand it,if you see him on the sand or rock feed him then.He will get a lot of natural food from the glass, rocks and sand bed.
