I get it now- thanks.
The only elegance I've seen thrive was with SPS quality light and water. Obviously the wattage doesn't matter, but only two 250's on a 210g doesn't seem to me to be SPS quality. That said, I don't get to the LFS that much these days, living out in the sticks, and many corals do become hardier because of numerous generations of aquaculture. The last one I saw that I knew had been alive awhile was about 6 years ago and it was directly under three 250's in either a 180 or 150 (I don't remember the exact size of the tank other than it was a 6 footer and fairly deep). Obviously if she had the elegance directly under a 250 in the 210, she would be getting the same effect. Judging from the way the tank was set up, probably didn't happen that way. Maybe they have better specimens now. There used to be a time when keeping Xenia alive was next to impossible. Now it grows like weeds. Maybe someone has a long lived elegance they can chime in about (even though its kind of off topic).
I get it now- thanks.
Blennies and Gobies are the coolest fish in the ocean! Latest video of my tank.
As far as I know about Elegance corals, and I had a few in the days, the key to long term succes is not blast it with a whole lot of light and water flow. Gentle swaying of the tentacles is OK but if you want an "sps" type water movement you shouldn't keep this corals. Placed in the moderate light and flow, preferably on the sandy bottom, it should thrive and grow well with feedings and adequate calcium and alkalinity.
I believe those 250w bulbs would be OK for the Elegance to live, my personal feeling is that it wasn't the light that did her livestock in, including that elegance... It;s always terrible to read stories like this one, where LFS emplyees alowed to tell people that placing delicate inverts is OK after couple of weeks/month of setting up an aquarium.![]()
Steve, there are plenty of good service people around, including some of the LFS emplyees that do care. And, there is nothing wrong having people maintain your tank. It is not really necessary to add Ca and Mg every night either...Originally Posted by Steve McKay
This people had a brand new tank, good sized and all, and if it was alowed to mature properly the fiasco wouldn't have happened. And that is aside from the fact that we don't really know exactly what they did to kill off all that livestock. Something went wrong real fast righ after the water change, so...![]()
