    Unhappy For Future Reference

Hello, so I am somewhat of a newbie, I have a 29 Gallon aquarium with an eclipse 3 hood and was wondering If the stock lighting in this hood would be enough to care for an anemone. As you can tell I am very new to inverts, and have no idea about their lighting requirements.
So please dont be too harsh on me

any advice as too replacing the lighting would be amazing.

    as of now equipment wise:

    Eclipse 3 hood and filtration
    802 Powerhead
    marine land submersible heater

    ~30 lbs of LR

I am planning on purchasing more LR

any help would be muuuchhh appreciated

    Thanks,
    Jacob

    hi Jacob,

One thing i'm quite sure everyone would agree is that all anemones are heavily dependent on lightning as a good food source in our small limited nutrient aquariums.

As the wave length of each light source reaches different levels of the tank, some may not reach certain depths, maybe you can describe to the experts (that will soon arrive) here what your tank dimensions are and the wattage and the K of your bulb. The Anne would most likely move around till it finds the spot it likes best regarding current and light. If its always reaching for the the very top part of your tank, then thats a good sign of insufficient lighting.

Also what kind of Anemone is it? Is your tank a FOWLR? Do you plan feeding it with fresh food?

    Good luck

No,it is only good for fish.It only has two standard 24" fluorescent bulbs. It would not make sense to try to upgrade the lighting because even if you could the hood would hold in to much heat. You won't find very many reef aquariums with hoods. You could take the hood off and mount your own lights. This is the equipment you need to have a reef tank.Tank, lights, skimmer, circulation pumps and a sump isn't necessary but it's a nice place for your skimmer and heater and it adds more water volume making the system more stable.

    +1 Steve,

Those eclipse hoods are great for freshwater tanks, they are not really designed for any type of reef system, post your tank dimensions and we'll see what we can find for lighting for you
    Tanks,
