Hard to see from those pics. Is it translucent?

Are those rocks new, and you put them right in your tank? Have you checked your ammonia and nitrite levels?

I know this wasn't your question, but it looks like you might have some aiptasia in there. Are you familiar with it?

Yes it is translucent! No the rocks are not new to the tank. I have a 45 gal tall that I bought with everything in it but some of the fish. I bought it and moved it 1 hour from home got it set back up with out losing anything.

A reef nuisance that can reproduce quickly:

Yes Im taking care of them also. When I got this set up it had 30 of them and Im down to around 15 now. They aren't killing things right now but this other thing is. Just really would like to know more about it before I do it in! Not that the shrimp was costly but I have lost 3 fish also.

That's not Aptaisia. I'm not sure of the name of those, but I've had them in my system before. They don't tend to spread and I never had any problems with them. If you are worried about them, a little kalk paste ought to clear the issue right up. If it's eating your cleaner shrimp, then maybe it is a foe, huh?

Well I thought that too! Just didnt want to kill it for trying to live you know what I mean!?
In the 2nd picture I posted there are more but its a bad picture! Thought about just running it under tap water and then putting it back but didn't know if that would work or not. The big one there is a nice piece of coral right by it and dont want to harm it.
What is kalk?? I'm not new to Saltwater tanks but in 12 years allot has changed..

Yes, I know what you mean.

Kalk is short for Kalkwasser which is the German (and commonly used terminology in the reef world) for lime-water. Kalk paste I'm referring to is pickling lime mixed with water to form a paste. That paste can then be injected into the offending invert. This is a commonly used method for controlling nuisance anemone (such as Aptasia and Mojano)

You do have aptasia though, the anemones on the right and left side of the pick are aptasia. They're spread is limited by the food available. If you feed your tank tons of mysis (or other frozen foods), it's likely they'll spread quickly.

Well the wife said she dont want me putting something in there that might kill something else.
I thing the thing in the picture is going to get pulled out and hope for the best unless someone can come up with a better way.

The problem with that is that I believe all of the Corynactis are temperate.

Re: Help what is this friend or foe

    This thread may be helpful.
Some species of Corynactis and one of the Pseudocorynactis were found where live rock is collected, so it is a possibility that it is one of them. Usually not harmful but in a small tank it could be problematic since it can trap your ornamentals easily.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.
