Do you have any products in your water (like Stress Coat, Prime, Melafix, etc) ?

Some products (not necessarily those mentioned) can cause extra bubbling. Some claim to have no impact on skimmers, and will sometimes say this on the packaging.

What model Remora, and what model pump? Did you pair them up, or were they sold as a pair?

Seems like others have complained about AquaSafe as well, if you search for it.

Did the skimmer behave any differently after the water change?

I would do another large water change, and add one or both of these to your filtration for a month:

    PURA Filtration Pad

    Poly Filter

I would also switch from AquaSafe to Prime for any de-chlorination needs. Or invest in an RO/DI filter.

    Good luck.

Do you have a sump? Plan on adding one? Usually a sump provides opportunities for adding filter pads, depending on the design.

Canister filters can serve a purpose, but they have their drawbacks.

You could cut these filter pads (into multiple small circles) to fit some canister filters, but from the looks of the Magnum 350's design, not sure that would be possible.

Until you have a more convenient setup, maybe you could pass the input of the canister through a Polyfilter pad? Maybe roll the pad up (around a strainer, or cheap filter sponge) and insert the hose from the pump into that? It would be ugly, but I'm not sure what else you could do currently.

This might do a decent job, and look okay doing it:

    Filter Max Prefilters - AquaCave

Wrap the Polyfilter pad around it. Instead of the sponge, or around the sponge.

    Or... get a sump!

Or... what's in your Magnum 350 now? Maybe you can add carbon to it for a week or two and get similar results as the filter pads?

Just keep in mind that leaving carbon in for too long can leech some things back into your system. Carbon also removes some good things too, unfortunately.

But as long as you don't run too much carbon, and keep up with water changes (which replaces some of the good stuff), you'll be in good shape.

Not sure, but I really don't think so.

I'd stick with the carbon, assuming you haven't been running it for more than a couple of weeks.

If you've been running it for longer than that, then it probably isn't helping very much. In that case, water changes without the AquaSafe (try Prime instead), and/or the filter pad(s).

If your bio-load is low, and you're not overfeeding, you might also just wait things out. Eventually the AquaSafe will clear out, and you'll be very happy with the Remora's operation.

well, i guess i will just keep emptying the collection cup as it fills up with water. and do another big water change. All my levels are good... I added the UV JBJ UV because i had it sitting around, and because i got a really bad case of green algea that started. so I added that and took out the floss which solved that problem. Now i just gotta figure out the protein skimmer and ill be one happy camper!

The skimmer is probably going through it's break in, also, just use ro/di water, you can get it at most wal-marts, it's the water machine at the front of the store, some grocery stores also have them, also straight Distilled water is available at both places in gallon jugs, this will help immensly until you can get your own ro/di system hooked up

Not to hijack your thread but I recently got what looks to be the same sized 80 gallon tank from a guy on CL as well, I cant find much info on 80 gallons besides bowfronts...I am wondering if you found a glass top that fits yours or what is compatible?

It is better not to have a closed top it will hold in heat and not allow proper gas exchange.

Use egg crate to cover the top if you have fish that jump. But you only need it if you have jumpers.
