well i quit my job (read my post in general) so i cant afford a 72 gal, but the $250 that i have is being poured into the 30 gal reef. So tonight i am ordering 2 False percula clown fish, 1 cleaner shrimp.. is it too early for starfish? i want to put as many animals in there as possible, within the next two-three weeks, because after that i will have no money at all!!! i gotta save money for RO water. I wanted to order the 2 percs and the shrimp from jason at PA. is flyingfish reliable? what about jeff at exotic fish? as far as fish go? could i add 2 clowns, a shrimp, and two gobys? i may order more hermits, because getting snails would be a stupid move, with hermits already in there... i caught them eating a trocus and a cerith!
could i get 2 percs, and a cleaner shrimp, now, and in 2 weeks, 2 clown gobys and a firefish or cardinal fish?? [This message has been edited by FishKid (edited 05-06-2001).] |

From experience, ffexpress stinks for fish! I personally have never ordered fish from them but i do a lot of combining orders to save shipping costs, and some of the other guys who order with me get fish, and they have like a 50% survival rate.
For the ammount of stuff you are getting, it'd prolly be cheaper to get them at the LFS cause there is no shipping. If you are gonna go MO, I would suggest PA (premium aquatics), they have a great track record and are very customer oriented. Buba BTW- Go true perc's, better color. Make sure whatever way you go, get CAPTIVE BRED!!! There is no reason not to. |

Be careful with all the fish. I wouldn't stock that size of a tank with more then a pair of perc's and maybe a gobie or two (fish wise at least). What else do you have in the tank? Since you said you have a cleaner (what the heck is a skunk shrimp?) i wouldn't suggest getting any more shrimp as they tend to be territorial and may decide to kill each other.
DON'T for gods sake get any hermits. Hermits are the devil and will eat any snail, clam or tasty coral it finds. What do you have for lighting? Just wondering, as its better to spend your money on corals as it is harder to overstock a tank with corals while it is VERY easy to overstock with fishes. How long has the tank been set up? whats in it? Basic info like that would be helpful. Buba |

How are you going to save for the RO unit if you quit your job. I would put in this tank, The 2 clowns, Two triggeres. two tangs, two lions and a shark. with as many posts as you have you should not have to ask a question such as this, If you still don't know the answer than i think you need to make that tank a reptile tank. Put as many fish as possible in such a short while, exactly what are you going to accomplish except kill everything.....

Hey Fishkid,
I would definitely not go much more than adding a more fish (perhaps a goby) to the pair of percs. A cleaner shrimp would also be o.k. p.s. just remember contrary to what other people say, the only stupid question is a question that is not asked. That is what this board is all about. Even the most experienced people have questions. We all continuously learn new things! ..Gary |

Bubafat, I disagree I have nothing but a positive experience with FFexpress. I have ordered numerous fish, shrimp, and anemones from them and all have thrived in my tanks. People, lighten up on the kid we all get a little anxious to put livestock in our tanks!

1) Nice website. 2) Nice tanks in a nice room. 3) Rude response to Fishkid.I hope I'm still allowed to ask a question when I grow up to be an expert or an engineer (the two aren't synonymous.) Be nice to people who are just trying to learn and make wise decisions, rather than watching their mistakes die. |

Was not meant to be rude, Not the first time for fishkid. he's been doing this for a while. has well over the amount of posts on multiple boards. He should know by now what is the proper amount of livestock.

Sometimes one just wants a second opinion, I've been keeping reefs for over 5 years, yet its nice to have a second opinion. There is no cold set rule on how many fish to put in a tank, so lay off the kid, people like you who start flames, take your fire elsewhere.
Sker-Good to hear that you've had good experience with ffexpress. Buba |

Albee,
Fishkid is just being an exuberant youth. I say let him have fun. He'll be an upstanding adult someday with the thoughtful restraint that most adults are expected to have. Besides, flaming a 14 year-old? What's up with that? Fishkid, Go easy, get a just a couple of fish for now. You're going to need the balance of that money to pay for maintenance. Mow a few lawns--then go wild. ------------------ -Todd 'Only the corrupted can recognize true innocence for what it is.' |

Getting back on SUBJECT, I think you could have more then 2 percs and a goby but thats my opinion. Add the percs now wait a month or two and add a pair of firefish. Overstocked? Not in my opinion.

If you are so familiar with Fishkid's postings on other boards, then you know he is 14 years old. I am aware of 5 or 6 different "formulas" for stocking fish in a tank, and my years of FO experience have taught me that whatever works in your tank with your fish is right for you. I've followed the rules for stocking in the past and watched as "compatible" fish have slaughtered each other, and I've kept 8 large (4-6") fish in a 55 for years with no disease or nitrates. As far as fighting with a 14 year old kid who loves the marine hobby, think about how you were at 14. I'm guessing your weren't as rigid or as knowledgeable as you are now as an adult. Find someone your own size to pick on. I enjoy his enthusiasm. |

I thought I might elicit a response...
My apologies, Albee, based on your responses above, I thought you were well versed in Fishkid's business--on this board and apparently others that he frequents. He has stated more than once what his actual age is. But then, it is just a forum. Who really knows the truth about anyone...eh? ------------------ -Todd 'Only the corrupted can recognize true innocence for what it is.' |
