pump running.. now what?

Well, I got the sand and water in and the main pump running. The water is still cloudy from the HD sand. I haven't mixed in the salt yet or started the heaters or skimmer yet. Just sort of doing a test run on it now to find any leaks. I have noticed that one corner overflow aways has about an inch more water than the other. Has to be in the way the overflow was put in. Is this going to cause trouble? Also, will the water clear up faster with the salt and skimmer running? I was figuring that there is nothing to skim yet and wanted to make sure it was going to clear- no need to waste a bucket of salt. I have an All-Glass with their corner overflow that pulls water from the bottom and the top of the tank and was wanting to add a little more sand but won't it get sucked up in the lower intake on the O/F? Sorry 'bout all the ??s in one post. thanks, Bill

Due to the size of the sand in southdown, it is very dusty...... I have never used the sand personally, but have heard good results from people using a canister sediment filter; such as a magnum, during intial startup of the "dust storm". Running the skimmer would be of no use. I dont know about your tank overflow ?

Go ahead and add the salt, and start the skimmer. The water WILL clear, ( mine took almost a week ) and the skimmer will pull out the real fine floating stuff. IMO the overflow will be OK , It probably has an extra elbo or something that restricts the water just a bit........Mike

Thanks guys, I got up this morning for work and the tank was clear. Looking really good. holding back with the salt-- I need to get another heater. One of the three that I planned on using must have kicked the bucket and another one is still needed in the 55 so all I have is a 250w to spare. I'll get there . Bill
