Deflated button coral
Can someone tell me what could be wrong with this fellow? We have had him for about 4 months. When purchased, he was the size of an oreo cookie. When we place him in the tank, he blossomed and blossomed to what I'd call the size of a large bagel!! All of a sudden, 3 days ago he deflated. Part of him is a little ballooned out but he's basically back to the original size. We've searched for possible damage but found nothing. We've made one change to the filtration after reading several threads here and I'm wondering if that would do it. Specifically, we have a 55 gallon tank using a Magnum 350 filtration without the bio wheel. We recently cut down on the carbon from 1/2 cannister to a few tablespoons of carbon. I wonder if that has something to do with it. We have had absolutely no problems with our tank and other inhabitants till now and only with the button coral. Could it be some sort of cycle he's going through? I've noticed on occassion the other corals will deflate for a couple of days and then bloom back up again. He's never done this before so we are worried. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to lose him. He's a beautiful coral color and an outstanding specimen.
