Post Brooklynella update

Well,
tonight my Lionfish finally ate a couple of silversides(thank you God). It's been almost 2 weeks since he last ate. As many of you know, we lost our tang and angel(we still miss our buddies) within 48 hours of the initial outbreak and the lion wasn't looking too good either. After massive dips in formalin over 72 hours out lion pulled through but still was not eating. Fortunately he was very healthy to begin with. I believe that's what saved him since he hasn't eaten in almost 2 weeks. He's gonna be fine...Dance of Joy[img]/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

Aragorn,

I feel happy for you. I'm sorry about your losses and I know it must felt hard to lose your buddies whose been with you for awhile. What tips would you give so that incidences of brooklynella would not occur? I just had ICH occur and my Clarki'i clown passed away. I felt reeaaaaly bad, since now my other clarki'i doesn't have a tank mate.

Thank you. As far as what would I do...that's a tough call. You see, the tank(and inhabitants) were all very healthy and thriving. The weekend prior to the outbreak I simply added a detrivore kit and a coral. 4 days passed then WHAMO!!! I initally thought "hmmm maybe ick" WRONG! 48 hours and they were dead despite my efforts. This stuff is kinda spooky how fast it can kill. I have always soaked my food in Selcon and supplemented w/ natural seaweeds. All I can say is that if it looks as though all your fish SUDDENLY get covered w/ ick and are "lethargic" then DO NOT HESITATE to dip them in formalin. Fresh water dips don't help nor does copper. Additionally, once a tank is infected, one needs to let the tank go fallow for about 6 weeks w/out hosts(fish). Currently I have only inverts in the 135g. That's about all I can say. JME

Aragorn,

Glad to see that the Lion and also the tank are moving along in the right direction. I've had some of my fish for about 8 years and would sorely miss any of them if they went away. Hopefully I can get a bigger tank soon than the 55 they've outgrown years ago. Now that I've made some space in the garage for one then that should be more likely sooner.
