    Newbie Setting up 120 long

I'm in the possess of starting a reef tank(60x18x25). I'm new to saltwater. I know that I would like to have some LPS and SPS corals as well as some soft. My problem lies in the fish I want to keep as well. Here's what I'd like to keep.
    Flame or Coral Beauty Angel
    Midas Blenny
    Pink Skunk Clown
    Blue Damsel
    Royal Dottyback
    Firefish
    Clown Goby
    Foxface
    yellow tang
    Blue Hippo Tang
    Sixline Wrasse
    Maybe a:
    Convict Tang
    Kole Tang
Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Like I said I'm new to this.

one thing I can say is I would not go with damseils due to the aggression, and why have a 8 dollar fish stress out a 90 dollar fish.

I am sure there are other issues with the other fish, but I am new too and know I hated my damseils in my first tank.

Plus a lot of tangs for that size tank, I would guess that may be an issue.

    Hi flyfrod,

Ooops, forgot to add that you should post your questions about fish in our fish forum. Leebca, our moderator there, should be able to help you with selection and any other questions you may have about fish.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Welcome to Reefland.

That's a lot of fish for a 120g, big fish too. You better have a very good skimmer.

If you research corals you'll find out that mixing soft corals with LPS and SPS corals is not a good choice, if you do keep them well separated.

Move what? Your thread? I don't think you need to bother with that, you are in the right forum since you will be keeping corals and fish. Another words a reef tank.
The reason I mentioned fish forum is bacause Lee is very knwolegeable person about all the fish issues, so you can just start another thread in his forum with particular questions.
However, if you insist, I can move your thread over for you. ;)
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Re: Newbie Setting up 120 long

I have a 120 long but it's not a reef tank. two of your pics were in my 90 reef tank and grew very big,the hippo tang and I have a domino damsil, mine kinda bonded and terorized the the whole tank including the sea urchin that poke the hippo tang's eye twice but healed. now they are with a dogfaced puffer(aka..dino) and a picasso trigger in my 120.Not really sure what to add if anything to it.Four fish in a 120. any suggestions?

Re: Newbie Setting up 120 long

welcome to reefland. your picks as far as fish are all nice fish except for the damsels. Dont even bother with them. They are vicious little guys. I can't even reach in my tank anymore without fighting my female clown off with a net. and believe those little bites can hurt. i would only do put one tang in that tank and some people on this site will probably tell you not to put any tangs into any tank less thank 6 feet long.

steve is right about the mixing softies with lps and sps. not a very good choice. i did it in my current tank and im regretting it. my mushrooms spread like mad. luckily i have a mean ol' hammer coral near them to keep them on their little island.

Check out pictures of adult fox faces and Hippo tangs. Their colors tend to fade and look very awkward so what you think looks good as a juvenile may turn out to be rather ugly. and they get very large.

also remember, the less fish you have the less nitrates produced which means less water changes ( no one kill me but i find this to be true so long as metals stay high enough)

good luck and the best advice i ever got about reef tanks i will pass on to you. TAKE YOUR TIME. Patience is rewarded in this hobby.

The yellow tang is a great choice,I had one and it was a awsome tank mate. The hippo will most likley become agressive and torment the blennies and such.. Maybe consider a gold rimed tang.I was told that you dont want to put tangs with the same shape as one another together. Not sure if it is true but sounded right to me.
