My Tank Has Encountered An Injury.. Should I Be Worried?

During my tank move, the back-right corner of my 150 gallon tank encountered contact with the edge of the truck bed while driving over some rough road (Thanks NJ!).. As you can see in the images below the corner of the tank chipped a little.

I'm worried this will cause a weak point in the tanks structure and that it one day may just empty onto my floor...

So what should I do? Can it be repaired? Should I worry at all? I'm just glad it's on the back of the tank! HA!

    Hi Shadal,

I don't know if your tank will be okay or not. It doesn't look all that bad to me but I'm not qualified to make that call.

I had a 90 once that had several chips, and a hole in the bottom that I repaired, it did well for several years, not sure about this one. How deep is the chip??
    Tanks,

I'm not qualified either but in the second photo you can see the crack (distortion) is deeper than the actual chip itself. I would have it looked at by a professional, it might be fixed the same way they fix car windshields. I bet you'll have it tied down better next time. Maybe you can sue the state of NJ.

Here's a couple more 'angled' shots... Theres not really a crack, more of a gouge.

If you look at the second photo in the first set. You will notice light colored rings to the bottom right of the chip and above it. They might not mean anything but I would have it looked at, at least.

I'm in no way an expert at all, i do however have a similar chip in my 55g sump and all I did was slather home depot aquarium silicone on it and its no problem.

What you SHOULD do, is reinforce it with said silicone and then water test it for at LEAST a week. I would like to think a leak would show in that peroid of time under pressure.
