My mushroom leather is very touchy

I got very large mushroom leather about a week ago and when ever the day lights come on it closes up!!
but at night under the led lunar lights it opens quite a bit.

why does it close when the lights come on and how can i stop it

(I have the 36" coralife lighting system white and blue bulbs with the lunar led lights)

How many watts is that light, and how big is your tank, also where in the tank is the mushroom placed?

Do you mean Toadstool Leather? (Sarcophyton sp.)
Do you know what type of lighting scheme was used in the pet shop where you purchased the coral? How about the kelvin of the bulbs? Knowing this is very important since, often times the color and coral acclimation time will vary from where you purchased the coral and your tank.
Water parameters, water flow, neighboring corals and other livestock can have implication both positive and negative with regards to coral.
Acclimation time can range from days to months for a coral to reach its full potential in terms of polyp extension, size and coloration.
If you are noticing polyp extension, then it seems like the coral is healthy.
Keep your eye on it and possibly move it to another location in your tank and see how it responds.

Leather corals will sometimes stay closed for several days or shed a waxy film layer as part of their growing process. A little extra flow may help stimulate the leather to open up again.

Probably just acclimating to your lighting, the fact it opens up at night is a good thing. Give it some tim and it should be fine.

How many watts is that light, and how big is your tank, also where in the tank is the mushroom placed?

I have a 38g tank 20 inches tall and the leather is placed just below half way up. In have two acintic bulbs and two white bulbs. I think each are 31watts. 10,000k.

How do I acclimate it? I've heard of placing nylon screen on the top aquarium glass above the coral to filter light
