Unhappy HELP! anemone sucked into rio!

I brought home my new rose anemone last night. I looked in the tank this morning and my $%&@# moray eel must have knocked down my rio 600 circulation pump off of the side of the tank, which then fell NEXT to the anemone! (this has to be a nightmare, tell when I can wake-up). Then the anemone got partially sucked into the rio. To say the least my new anemone looks like "death warmed over". I don't think there is much hope. Anyone ever had this "nightmare"?

My condy anemone decided one night to crawl up my power filter tube. By morning, there bits and pieces of him everywhere... I was horrified... but there was one piece that looked like where the mouth was so i kept that piece in the tank and now he has reattached, but looks crippled. Looks nothing like he originally looked. but he's still alive...

He may eventually recover, you also may have several new anemones "Pop" up from fragments that might settle in a favorable area. (I've heard of this happening, never seen it, and I'm not sure all species of anemone can do it.)

Have hope! Anemones have tremendous regeneration abilities (some better than others). I wouldn't give up hope too soon. Just keep a close eye on it, and keep it away from the PH's...Gary

Actually it is rather unlikely that ground up parts of the anemone will regenerate, unless you are talking about aiptasia. If the anemone is just caught in the intake cover, separate the intake cover from the powerhead and let the anemone work its way loose. This might help prevent injury. It is also a good idea to put those bulky Hagan quickfilters, as empty dispersers, on your intakes. It is much less likely that an anemone would get sucked into that and then the powerhead.

I think GOOD NEWS! My wife just called me from home and said the anemone looks completely alive, and is traveling around in the tank.

UPDATE: Well it's alive, but...it's tenticles are pretty small and alot of times I can see it's mouth in plain view. It's pretty much staying out of direct light, and has not "moved" around the tank. It has stayed in the same spot for about a week now. Should I try to get it out into the light?

I'd let it be - you might cause further damage by moving it. My LTA survived a similar accident - he pretty much took care of himself.

Hi All,

Agreed,

Don’t try and move it.

Offer it food though. Feeding it is the best way to give it the fuel to repair itself.

Regards,

Scott
