    Question Anemone problems....

I have two ocellaris clown fish's and a bubble tip anemone. It has been almost three days and they have not yet hosted the anemone. Is there a problem? [This is my 10 gallon tank... not my 75 gallon]

If I am not mistaken you have a 85% chance of them hosting but not guaranteed.

I have two young clown and a huge bubble tip and mine don't host it either and I don't see it happening.

If you really wanted that it is best to see in the pet store a clown hosting one.

A bubble-tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is not a natural host to ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) but they will usually accept it as a surrogate host in captivity eventually. Whether it takes a few days or a few weeks for them to accept it is unpredictable.

However, a 10-gallon tank is grossly inadequate for a bubble-tip anemone and a pair of ocellaris clownfish. I wouldn't put that anemone in anything less than a 40-gallon aquarium and I wouldn't attempt to keep a pair of ocellaris clownfish in anything smaller than a 25-gallon tank.

Here is a picture of zhenya's bubble-tip anemone:

The anemone cloned. And it cloned again. And again. And again. Over a period of less than seven years, zhenya's original tiny little bubble-tip anemone produced well over 100 clones. Finally zhenya gave away most of the clones to a couple of very well known hobbyists. He kept only a couple for himself.

I always like to post pics of the BTA that ate zhenya's 110-gallon tank. It should serve as an inspiration for other hobbyists attempting to keep any anemone in a tank less than 40 gallons.

I strongly recommend that you read this article: Be a Host to Your Anemone, by Dr. Ron Shimek.

Well done, Ninong.... That should scare anyone attempting to keep anemones in a small tank...
    Kind regards,

We are gonna need tanks to destroy the anenomes
Would you live in a moderate size house with no bathroom? if not, then do what is right! Let your tank cycle for one month. Respect the fish! ;)
