    Needing Some help!

Hey guys I hope This is the right spot to post this topic. I have been keeping freshwater fish for years now i want to start a reef tank. I have been looking at the nano cube 28 gallon tanks. my questions are
how much live rock and live sand do i need? Do i have to have a reverse osmosis machine or equivelent?
I want to try my hand at a few corals along with a few small fish I have heard that tapwater must be run through a reverse osmosis machine before u can use it in a reef tank or your corals would die.

    Hey Blacksnake,

    Welcome to Reeflands

yep, you are in the right spot,

You are gonna wanna look at about 30 - 40 lbs of rock, same amount of sand. Don't fall for the live sand in the bag trick, just get plain dry aragonite sand, carib sea makes some really good stuff, then get a cup or two from a fellow hobbyist to seed the dry sand.

As for the water, you don't want to use tap water at all, the stuff is barely fit for human consumption, use ro, ro/di or distilled water.

There is a sticky at the top of the reef forum called - Click here before you ask, go through that sticky, there is alot of needed info and alot of your questions can be answered there.

The biggest tips I can give you is research everything, and I mean everything, don't try to save a few bucks at start up, it'll cost you more later(voice of personal experience). If you get stuck or have a question, post it here in your thread and we'll do our very best to help you out.

And remember, Patience is the key to success in this hobby.

Again, welcome to our little community
    Tanks,
    Robert

    Welcome Blacksnake!

You'll definitely want a good ro/di setup along with some good test kits to get you started.

    Where in KY are you?
