    Crab question

Bad guy, right? Claw tips are black, and has hairy legs. Found this sitting on the sand today, either dead or a molting, not sure...would a crab molting look like this?
I rolled it between my finger tips, and it seemed pretty much hollow...no ooze or guts, so I'm thinking the little bugger's still in the tank, only bigger.

    Re: Crab question

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure it's not an Emerald. Saw one in the LFS yesterday, and this one is a different color. Kind-of light rust colored, and has really hairy legs. Also, has dark red eyes...just looked like a evil sucker.

Another thing that leads me to believe it's a bad guy, is that when I was examining it, it sprayed out some sort of acid, and then flew across the room and attached itself to another crewmembers face, and inserted a long proboscis down his throat. He seems to be ok though.
On another note, I found some interesting pod growths behind the live rock in my tank...I'm gonna go poke around at them in a few minutes...

Emerald crabs do not have red eyes, so it can't be an emerald crab.

...just looked like a evil sucker.
    It is.

Red-eyed crab hitchhikers are usually Xanthids or members of the family Menippidae. Either way they're bad news.
