    Re: James' 75 gallon intro

Been a while since I've posted. I have been battling a nutrient problem for the past month. Phosphates have been high due to my astraea snails dieing off. I think the ones I got weren't from true tropical waters. They lasted about 18 months and are dieing off like crazy. My other snails species are living fine. I've got a lot of cyano because of it. My corals and fish seem to be doing well, dispite the water quality issues though. Lots of growth across the board. Ill get some pics up soon but I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still around. Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Hey James! Sorry to hear ur probs. I lost most of my cuc in my Dino battle. I think Astraea are pretty hardy and 18 mnths might point to something else. When you find them dead is it just shell or is there still meat in them

Thanks twisted. Ive seen both empty shells and shells with dieing snails still in them. Only the astraea snails are dropping which is why i thought they werent from true tropical waters. Definately dont have dinos. Aside from the NA and cyano, the tank is doing well.

A belated happy holidays to you and yours as well Chris! The tank has seen better days but I think it's starting to rebound. Phosphates are down to .02 (from .33) . I've still got some cyano going on and have some byprosis clogging up the overflow grill. I have to be sure to keep that clean or risk a flood. I'll try to get some new pics up tomorrow. Sadly, the Hollywood Stunner chalice is starting to bleach. I've been spot feeding it recently, hopping it will recover. I would hate to lose it as it belonged to Original Fun and it was one of his favorites. Hopefully it won't end up like my first chalice.

Hey thanks jauld! It's actually a blue polyp monti and it's grown quite a bit since that pic.

They are actually real easy. I spot feed mine a few times a month and they do great! They get flow from intense to gentle throughout the day and are awesome adds if you have the floor space. Mine go from 3" at night to about 10" in the daytime

    Re: James' 75 gallon intro

Man Twisted! I haven't been on in a long time! Work and the extra commute hasn't given me a whole lot of time to cruise the forums. Add a hyper 2 year old to the mix and I've about dropped dead . Anyways, the tank has seen better days. I've been fighting algae for a while. Cyano and GHA are no more but a moderate case of bryopsis sprouted up. Have to pull the stuff 2x a week. I started to raise my magnesium up to kill the stuff off. Battling this stuff makes me miss my GHA! I'll see about posting some picks this week. No new adds but things have been growing steady and the tank is starting to really fill in. Original Fin's corals are getting big. The favia he gave me is on it's way out though. Don't think I can save it. It's near my other favia, which is doing we'll which is strange. Unless there's a turf war between the two. Pics to come guys! Just wanted to let you know I'm still here.

Glad yer still hangin in there. I'm getting ready for my busy season and am hoping I've taken care of the issues that make my tank hard during that time. Don't be a stranger! :-)

    Re: James' 75 gallon intro

Thanks guys. I'm going to try and make more of an effort to surf the boards more often. Dealing with this algae has definately hurt my motivation. The stuff grows so fast that I have to pull it at least three times a week. Oh well. Hopefully raising my mag with Kent Tech M does the trick. I have to order a gallon of the stuff.

I did have another issue a few days ago. I checked on the tank to find my chalices battling it out. Looks like the hollywood stunner got the best of the baby blue chalice. It killed about a third of it. I had to sperate the two. Heres some pics of the damage.

Remember when my alien eye chalice went to war? Wiped out everything within 6" of it. It happens with no warning and fast! Hope you can salvage them. Those chalices though cool can be narsty!!!! Good luck with the algae. Have you though of nudi's or other controls?
