    live rock ??

Ok I have a question regarding base rock I ordered off the internet I was wondering if anybody has tried using this type it is sold as fossilized coral but I believe it is quarried from dry land my reason for going this route was to save money I have roughly 150 lbs base rock and 20 lbs live rock if anybody has done this before I would love to know how it worked out thanks

Typically the land quarried ancient reef rock is quite dense and provides much less surface area to colonise micro-fauna. It is perfectly safe however to use.

One note: If you plan on growing corals I recommend not to exceed 50% of the tank height with rock to leave room for coral growth.

    Re: live rock ??

Thanks Kevin. I was worried I might have put something bad in my tank seen no ill effects but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask a pro thanks for the response. You think it would be better to get more quality live rock or you think the limestone is sufficient? Also could I put more liverock in a tank already cycled? Currently fishless but have three blue legged hermits and three turbo snails. Have been thinking about maybe taking some of the limestone out and adding a rock or two every week or two weeks of liverock from lfs. Any thoughts or advice is always appreciated.

    Hello,
20 lbs of high quality live rock is plenty to seed 150 lbs of base rock. Cured live rock can be added in any quantity at any interval. So if you see a really nice piece and it is cured don't be afraid to add it and remove a less distinctive one.
