    Green BTA?

    Hello I am new here,

I have a question. My tank has been up about 7 months now and on some live rock I bought at start up some things have began to grow. I have an anemone; it started about the size of a finishing nail head and now is about the size of a nickel. I want it to get bigger but every time it gets this big it splits. I started with one and I now have seven. It has green tips but is too small to get a good pic. Does anyone know what it is? Is it possible it will never get bigger?

    Thank you

Are you sure its a BTA? Has it ever moved? Have the 'offspring' ever moved? Could it be a majano anemone? Hard to say without some pictures.

Oh shoot it does look like a majano anemone. Do they move? They seem to move around but are only on one rock. I have joes juice I am going to try and kill one right now.

    Thanks

I don't have first hand experience with these pests but I believe they are able to move about.

    Re: Green BTA?

Ok so I killed 6 with the joes juice. Sigh, They look so nice, I left one one alive on the rock and moved it to the substrate away from the reef. I like to look at it, is this a good idea or can it still spread to other areas of the tank. I already have my hands full w aptasia I don't need more problems.

    Thanks

it could be a majano anemone since they are small but if they stay on 1 rock that the clue and still if it small and stay on rock but spilt alot then it could a majano anemone

You could keep as many as you like. I don't think they are as invasive or harmfull as aptasia. If they begin to spread again, you can always keep the numbers down with your preferred method.

I don't think anyone wants to buy them haha. I am going to keep one away from the reef tho. Hey spotted 66 is that a green spotted puffer as your avatar? If so I have one in my reef tank as well.

I heard you can also just pluck those mojas right off the rock if need-be. I have 2 on a rock with some mushrooms and they haven't caused any problems.

If you keep i them under control, they're not all that bad.

However, a friend of mine has a load of them and they started taking over all his zoanthid polyps. They can smother zoanthids, so just keep an eye on 'em.

    Re: Green BTA?

From my experience Mojano's are just as bad as Aiptasia... You'll be better off without them if you can eliminate them along with the Aiptasia. Either way, do your best not let either get out of control.
