    Algae id please

    Hello,
    This algae just started to grow in my reef tank recently and I cant ID it it seems to spread fast. Any idea what it is and how to control it? natural predators, etc

    PH 8.0

    KH-10

    Ca-450

    Hi Miguel B. ; I would think that a clean up crew of hermits and snails would be able to contoll it but I am not sure of the name. You could just scrape it off or try a tooth brush or water pick. Good Luck!!!!

    It looks like sea lettuce (if you're referring to the green leafy patches). I believe ulva sp. maybe? Most herbivores will eat it, it's actually kind of rare to see it in a reef tank because of the nutrient levels and the (typically) presence of herbivores.

    I also think it might be sea lettuce the green leafy stuff. However my Astrea snails don`t eat it or my tomini tang. The only one in my tank that eats it is my Diadema urchin.

    The tomini tang seems to prefer the diatom that I have in my sand.

    I will soon introduce another tang to see if it will go for it. I was thinking of a convict tang but I am afraid how he will interact with the tomini. Does anyone has these two together?
