    EXTREMELY BAD experience from LIVEROCKRANCH.COM

So I have recently converted to a FOWLR tank and proceeded to order 100 lbs of Uncured Live Rock from LIVEROCKRANCH DOT COM. What a mistake that was. Let me tell you about my experience.

I ordered the rock on Feb 1st, 2011, and was extremely excited to get this rock, as it looks amazing in the pictures. After I had ordered the rock, I decided to call the company to setup shipping arrangements. I got no answer and no reply until late Thursday. He told me he would ship it out on Monday with AIRCARGO, which is same day delivery. He then called me back on Thursday, and told me he can ship it out on Friday instead of Monday, so I agreed.

The package was checked in at 11 am from the Miami Airport, and didn't depart until 5 pm. The plane was headed to Minneapolis St. Paul, why I do not know, but it did not make it to my airport on the same day (Friday).

It is saturday now, and I have had nothing but problems with this package and actually, it's lost and NO ONE can tell me where its at. Turns out the shipper LIVEROCKRANCH shipped it standard air, instead of DELTA DASH which is same day. Ridiculous as I paid 410 dollars for this rock and shipping.

I called the owner and he did not answer, so I proceeded to leave a message stating I was going to put a hold on the account until this is settled. He called back immediately and proceeded to yell at me because I was going to put a hold on this account. BAD IDEA..
He then started apologizing for getting angry with me and said he would do whatever he could necessary to make me happy. Should I even give this company a chance as he blatently lied about shipping it same day AIRCARGO when I asked, as the airline told me it was marked standard.. Thoughts?

I have yet to receive my rock and i'm extemely P Oed. Just thought I would share this amazing experience with you all, and save you the BS I am enduring right now....

well i wouldnt be pissed at them for the messup it seems it is mainly the airlines fault it probarly will end up ariving on monday maybe tuesday. this can happen with any package and delays are common in the wintertime due to cancled flights and diverted flights. its uncured u said so you will have to cure it nomater what so the delay will not harm it as long as it arives at the corect wieght and it isnt beat to hell from shiping i wouldnt worry about it that much so waht if it arives a few days late maybe he can "compenaste" you for the aditional time it takes if it takes extremely long, after all you did say it checked in at the airport at 11 am so u should have a tracking # and its not like hes trying to take ya for a ride

Even though the live rock was originally uncured and would still need to be cured, a lot of beneficial bacteria and worms and what-not will die off during shipping that wouldn't have if it was shipped same-day(as promised). The reason for ordering live-rock, and paying more b/c it's liverock, is to have those beneficial life-forms in the rock. Without those life forms, you might as well have order dry base rock for a lot cheaper.

Yea he kinda is.... I paid 140 $ for Delta Dash for 100 lbs and he sent it standard which is 74 cents a lb... and takes 2-3 days... not same day like I asked for... And when I mean uncured, I mean pulled right outta the ocean, supposed to be sent same day to me here in iowa... what a joke

that's the point I was trying to get across, Thanks Joe Now everyone knows what i'm dealing with here...

The shipper called me and said it was scanned in to a delta flight arriving at my airport in 20 minutes. I am leaving for the airport and I will fill you guys and gals in when I get back, hopefully with some rotten ass smelly rock . Talk to you soon

Do you have an invoice that specifically says same day air shipping methods were agreed upon? If so, you have recourse to legally fight for your $$ back. Sounds like dude was trying to pocket some extra cash off of shipping.

If LRR doesn't make it right, I'd definately file a complaint with the BBB. Sounds like this outfit has been in trouble for that sort of thing before and just changed their name to get away from the bad rep. That's an old tactic that is becoming less and less effective thanks to the information age.

Re: EXTREMELY BAD experience from LIVEROCKRANCH.COM

So I Received my rock and the box on it definitely says standard air shipping.. What a crock of crap. The rock was cold, barely damp, had no heat packets or insulation containers for shipping that was promised and is on the website as well.. I am not happy about this, the rock is decent, im pretty pleased but the shipping issues and the thought of this guy trying to pocket my hard earned cash makes me angry I am thinking about making a complaint to visa about these guys, and get them to put a hold on their account... That should take care of these turds

Well if I file a complaint, a hold on ALL visa transactions to that company will be put on until resolved.. Pretty bad for business if you ask me!

Re: EXTREMELY BAD experience from LIVEROCKRANCH.COM

Questions with the rock.. The rock has some pretty good coloring too it, and still has a lot of life left in it. The only question I have it, I did a saltwater dip that had a powerhead in it, to knock most of the dead stuff off... There are plants attached tho these rocks, they have white fuzzy stuff all over them, looks like cobb webbs.. Should I keep em, or rip em off???

I don't think there sponges. These are plants, that are brown and have like a white film all over em... if you look closely.. that film looks like snowflakes, as far as structure goes.. Just wondering if its beneficial to eliminate em...

That's exactly what I thought of their customer service, it's non-existant! What did you seed it with and what do you think about the plants I have on mine, from the description above, do you have any ideas?

If you have truley uncured rock you will have all kinds of things on and in your rock. Some good some bad. The "cured rock" that I origionally bought from a local reputable dealer had a lot of..well..interesting things on it. And this was stuff I picked out myself from the curing tanks. I had hitchhiker crabs, micro and micro algea and all kinds of stuff which was interesting at the begining but a total PITA in the long haul. You can never rid yourself of it. I had (and have) some macro algea that just cannot be combatted. I've spent over a year changing water and pulling out hands full of the stuff. Phosphate reactors, carbon treatments, tames it but it is always there and comes back with a vengence.

This is why I'm doing a do over with dry rock without all the BS that comes with so called live rock. But since you have quite an investment in it, what I would do, knowing what I know now, is to cure the rock for at least eight weeks in a light proof container with plenty of flow and frequent water changes to try and stave off all of the bad stuff. I know that sounds a bit extream, but you will be happy you did. If you have what you think is brown algea looking stuff on the rock it will grow and grow and grow. To the point where it may put you off from the hobby and that would be disappointing to say the least.

At a minimum, cure it in your tank with no light for two months and see what happens. Another thing you can do is fill a 30 gal Brute bucket with RO/DI water and scrub the rock a bit to remove some of the macro stuff before you put it in a tank.

    Just my thoughts.

I think were not seeing eye to eye here lol.. I had some live plants on that rock, that are turning brown and light yellowish on the leaves... The bases are brown and the trunk are brown as well... They look dead, and I have not removed them.. The rock is set already and it would just be a pia to do this now. There is no brown algae growing anywhere, nice greens... lots of life still left in the rock I must say.....

Re: EXTREMELY BAD experience from LIVEROCKRANCH.COM

im gonna seed my tank with water from my biocube when i do a water change its got copods and all sorts of stuff in it plus i might take some of its sand to. I dont have a clue to what plants you got on your rock and that is why i will only ever put dry rock in my tank from now on because I dont like the bad hitchhikers that could be there like aptasia i hate that shit. Have you read any about making a salt solution twice as strong as salt water and putting the rock in it for like 10 min to drive out whats hidden in the rock.
