    RR Tanks!!!!!

First of off I have a 55 gallon FOWLR tank right now that's progressing along extremely well. I have decided to go BIGGER. These are where I'm going to need the expertise of you fellow reefers.. Ready?

This 55 gallon I have it 48 x 12 x 18... Pretty small, and I definitely want to house some tangs in the future, so I have decided this is a big NO NO... I want to use the 55 as my refugium/Sump..

The big question is the difference between the 120 gallon and the 125 gallon.

    120 Measures as follows.. 48 x 24 x 25 6 Inches of Width Difference!!!!!

125 Measures as follows.. 72 x 18 x 24 Five more gallons, Two feet longer, but six inches narrower

I am going to do a COMPLETE build on this bad boy... Give me your thoughts?! What does depth mean to you fellow reefers? More room for corals, bigger bio-load, swimming room, ect.. ect....

The 6 footer would be better for tangs...they need legroom so-to-speak. There's more you can do in terms of aquascaping in a tank with more front to back, so it all depends on how you want it to look. If you lean more to interest in fish, go with the longer tank. If you want more of a natural rockscape rather than just a run of the mill "wall o rock", go with the 4 footer.

A 6 ft 180 would be a no compromise best of both worlds tank IMO.

The guy down the street at the LFS has a 180 that's RR with Dual Overflows... 890$

    a 120 Gal RR for 500

    or a 125 RR for 450...

I know I will be moving in the next 5 years, and well I don't want to wait that darn long before I get this big tank going...

    If I went 180, would my 55 be sufficient for a refugium/sump???

Next biggest concern is the lighting needs of a 6 ft tank compared to a 4 ft tank... Theres gotta be some cost there, even when your going from the 120 wide to the 125 long... Am I in the ballpark on this?

I think the 55 gal should be good for the sump. Certainly for the 120 or 125. Your biggest concern is making sure you have the cash to set it all up properly. As I have found out, the cost of the tank is the cheapest part of the build. If you've got the cash, go for it!

What can I say.... I have expensive taste... I'm thinking some MH Lamps.. Euro Reef Skimmer Koralia wavemaker... ATO.... THE WORKS!!!

I am very aware that this hobby takes loads of cash... But I would rather play with my fish tank then drink a beer at the bar any day of the week... Hands down..

So I feel a little more money up front, will go a long way in the end...
