    Cleanern Shrimp Fertility Question

Hey all, I've got a pair of true cleaner shrimp that seem to be extremely fertile. I'm wondering if anyone else shares this experience. They will both carry eggs at the same time, which is typical. However, once one of them releases their eggs, they produce more within 24 hours. Is this normal? It's been going on for about 2 months now, never going more than 24-36 hours without eggs. Anyone else experience this? Has any progress been made in breeding them? I've done a small amount of research on that but it's been awhile. Thank you!

They must not be married, or this would only happen once every few weeks at best. LOL
I swim with them, eat them, catch them, care for them, but never get tired of "them"....

I've got expeirence in fresh water shrimp and its very normal for the large females to almost constantly be carying eggs where the males stay small and eggless. They are easy to breed as long as you have a tank just for them and their young.
You could feed the little guys baby brine and phytoplankton

    Re: Cleanern Shrimp Fertility Question

    Hi,
I have seen this before. The worst part is, water quality goes down with the high eggs release...and your skimmer has to work hard...I would ask you to plz keep an eye on that.

    Re: Cleanern Shrimp Fertility Question

Pgsasi, thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate the humorous ones too haha. I've noticed my skimmer collection cup has been filling a lot more quickly than usual. Do you know if there is something I can do to slow this? Does iodine affect this? I do dose iodide at about half the amount indicated on the bottle. I do half because they are molting fine, every 4 weeks or so and I haven't purchased a test kit. I'm a firm believer in always testing for what you are dosing. Would separating them make any difference?

    Thanks again!

    Re: Cleanern Shrimp Fertility Question

    HI,
please let your skimmer do what it is doing now. the more it skimms, more cleaner the water gets. In my experience, dosing anything without the need will become a backlash..please test before adding anything.. dont separate the shrimps...let them do what they are supposed to do... enjoy the show.

    Cheers / Sashi
