Re: Help / Advice on RODI Unit

    jeez talk about marketing!!!

LOL, I was in the market for a RO/DI and was searching on Ebay. Now i found this post and ill be on the bandwagon buying one of these from the filterguyz probably the $200 version.

Can anyone shed light on what the DI truley does? As I'd like to use this not only for my FOWLR but also some drinking water.

Re: Help / Advice on RODI Unit

Since I started this thread, I should get some sort of commission. DI uses ion exchange resins, which exchange the ions in the water, such as iron, magnesium, copper for hydrogen and nitrate, sulphate, phosphate for hydroxide. DI is fine to use, and if done correctly is better quality than a straight RO system (without a DI on the end).

Talking Re: Help / Advice on RODI Unit

Hi, i actually was going for the 200 one but Jim said that i would be fine with ro since that is what i have been using with no problems ,, the ro will tds around 3 or 4 and with di it will be 0 is what i learned ,, and regular tap water can be from 150 on up past that alot ,, so as Jim said if i get into more sensitive corals i could give di a try and just add it to the 124 system but in his honest opinion i probably dont need it ,, so that is why i bought it cause of u and cause he could of sold me on it and didnt , that means he is honest in my book, also i have a drinking ro system in my kitchen and love it so u may want to also set up a faucet to it as well so it will be easier to fill cups or bottles up

btw u should get some commission

Does it matter that my source water is from a well and not Tap?

I have no clue what is in my water, but i do know it leaves a white crust on my black fridge by the water dipensor!

That's just an indication of high mineral content/hard water. You may run through filters/resin faster than someone with treated low TDS city supplied water, but at least you don't have chlorine and/or chloramines to deal with.
Folks on wells could have very good or very bad water, depending on geography and local pollution or run off. If you are in an agriculture area, chances are you'll have high phosphates from fertilizers, and worse from pesticides.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I live on top of a mountain in PA, so i think it shouldnt be too bad water quality. Does anyone know of any tests i should run on my water before I hook up the RO/DI? or do i just assume that the RO/DI will remove all the bad stuff.

No need to test beforehand. You'll want to test for TDS on the clean water out. Zero is what you want. Anything more than that, and you may need a 2nd DI canister...that's pretty extreme though, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Does your RODI unit have a built in TDS meter?

    +1!
Good descision on getting your own unit. Source water will be one less thing to worry about.
Smart move on getting the full size DI chamber. I got the smaller, in-line DI cartridge and it got used up too fast. I just got the dual DI system in the mail today and will be installing it this weekend. I figure the DI resin should last over a year.

Chavez...good stuff. I have the same one - let me (or anyone for that matter) know if you have any questions. The only other thing I would get to protect your investment is a TDS meter.

Those garden hose connections should not be wrapped with teflon tape. The seal in these connections happens at the rubber washer. If you have a leak, tighten the connection a bit. If the connection is already tight, replace the rubber washer.
