    Re: 150 cube build

Ok guys here's what I'm thinking. I would like to paint my living room before I start the build on the 150 cube. That's no big deal to move that since its empty. But the 125 long is a problem. I am thinking about tearing it down. Figured I could pull the sand and the rock dry it out and store it till I'm ready to start the build. The only thing I see as a result to this is that when I start ill have to cycle my tank again and start from scratch. Maybe have to buy more premium live rock to re seed the sand and by that time base rock. Tell me what you think please am I missing something here?

Also I have received some of the goodies I ordered ill get some pictures up soon. Me and the wife both have been under the weather. So haven't accomplished much in the way of progress on the build.

Next thing I'm planning is painting the back side of the tank. Any thoughts on what's the best kind of paint I need to be using?

    Re: 150 cube build

    Update time

Well haven't got much done. I did get the back two sides painted and pretty happy how it turned out. Placed the sump under the tank also installed the A.T.O using a 5 gallon aquarium. Received the c skimm 1800 and after reading the literature realized you can't have any restriction in the return to your sump. Since I don't want it in the sump there just not enough headroom in the stand to bring it up above the sump I'm going to have to remove the side of the stand and build a platform to place it on. Also I need to order a return pump. The one that came with the other sump is a 1200 gph pump I was planning on using for a return pump. But when I opened the box to place it in the refugium I seen its an all metal pump. So I'm thinking maybe 1000 gph pump with a ballvalve bypass plumbed inline to try to control flow through the refugium. Also received my Ocean Reef + 1 from The Filter Guys got it installed. Very happy with the way it works.

Well that's where I'm at as of now. Hopefully next week I can get the tank cleaned out one more time and start on the plumbing side of the project.

Vortech mp40w BAD A#$ hours of fun. Got tired of my old cheap wave makers in the 125 falling down in the substrate soooo I decided to put it in till I get the 150 setup. Man that thing is so sweet. I played around with some of the programmable settings but I ended up and settled on the random reef crest and lagoonal setting. It's sick how well it proforms. 6 ft to the other side still gets pretty good surges from time to time. And it makes a pretty good undertow across the substrate. Can't wait to see it in the cube.

Glad you got top notch equipment. Especially one that's as fun to play with like the mp40. I'd fire up my new skimmer but I'm affraid all it would do is make bubbles . Can't wait till you get the cube fired up! Getting close to launch, no?

No James had to put it on the back burner for a bit. Had some unexpected things pop up mainly a trip to ole Mexico that was unexpected. But its all good I'm in no real rush. I don't want to get to hasty and over look something. Plus I'm debating on doing some macro rock. I have a ton of seeded base rock and a little good grade live rock. I think adding about 100 lbs good Marco rock and hand picking what I want from the 125 to seed it would work out good. I feel like I'm about 60% to 70% on the upgrade. Thanks for asking.

Oh yeah and I hear you on the skimmer really thought about setting it up on the 125 but decided to wait I'm itching to see what it can do...

    Re: 150 cube build

    Hello all.

It's been a while so I thought I would do a little update. Build has been pushed to the side for a while not sure when ill be able to precede. My wife had a cornea transplant not sure if the spelling is right on that or not. But her eye is trying to reject the transplant . So we have been doing biweekly trips to the city that's over 300 miles round trip. So until I get her fixed up my tank will be sitting in storage. I'm still here and not planning on calling it quits.

Wishing your wife a sucsesful and speedy recovery. I've injured my cornea before, and I know just how painful that can be. I hope it starts going better soon. Sending lots of positive energy your way.

The tank will wait and so will we.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
