    Question Too bright for coraline?

I hAve a current nova extreme 4x39w 36" over my 30g display, the tank is 18" deep i believe.
I have notice recently that all my coraline is growing underneath all my rocks and ledges and nooks and crannies, is it possible that my light is too intense? My corals looked good mostly LPS.. Hardly any spots on tops but the bottoms are pretty solid purple.. What's the deal with that yo?

Doesn't make sense. That's not that strong of a light for an 18" deep tank. Not sure what would be the real cause of that.

Talking Re: Too bright for coraline?

Hi Ryanwithabeard ; Think its just the flow in your set-up is preventing the growth on top of the rock. All you have to do is scrape some coraline algea off one of your rocks onto a plate then shut off your flow and powerheads and spread the scrapings on the rocks and areas you want the algea to grow on. Then turn power back on and you keep doing ths until you get results say once per week. Good Luck and Happy Seeding!!!!

    Re: Too bright for coraline?

I add Brightwell aquatics liquid reef, i used to use Kent two part calcium and buffer..
My calcium level is at 510 and my DKH is 11 my coralline isn't lacking on the underside of my rocks, almost solid purple! I've often contemplated just flipping the rocks, but really that wouldn't solve anything. My flow is pretty good two koralias on either side of my 30 and the return pump is breaking my surface tension..

    Re: Too bright for coraline?

IDK if it has anything to do with your coraline, but your cal is really too high. It's out of range, so without even knowing where your Mag is at, I know that your chemistry is out of balance.
The issue you'll get with cal being too high is precipitation. It may start to bind your sand bed together, and build up in your plumbing if it goes on long term.

Any of those all in one buffers lead to these sorts of problems. It would be better IMO to go back to the Kent two part, or better still, the Bulk Reef Supply 2 part kits.

Refer to the balance chart in the article below:

    What is Water Quality

    'Reef Chemistry Calculator FV'
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
