It's probably a hit or miss thing. Mine has been a model citizen, but I've heard a lot of people have bad experiences with them too.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Thx Fin. I read a lot of mixed opinions. The most prevalent thing I read was that they were "cave dwellers" which I have about 4 of in my tank, based on the way my rock is set up. So I bought him anyway...I had him on a 3 1/2 hour drip and just put him in a few mins ago. I suppose if my hammer is missing a few tentacles, I know the reason.
I got one, he never attacked any of my fish or corals.
Just remember to feed them well!![]()
Would you live in a moderate size house with no bathroom? if not, then do what is right! Let your tank cycle for one month. Respect the fish! ;)
When I got mine, I bought a small container of feed pellets that are supposed to be specific for crustaceans. Each day at feeding time, I drop one in near the CBS. I've never caught him attacking anything. He will posture when a fish gets too close to his cave, but it's all for show. I keep him well fed and he rewards me with good behavior.
