Re: What Type of Coral is This?

Thanks. From what I have read this is a fairly difficult coral to keep. Has anyone kept one? Looks like a 6-12 mo life in captivity, w/ target feeding of Phytoplankton, mysis shrimp etc. Medium - high water movement. Placement seems mid to low.

I would GREATLY appreciate the help. My brother in laws tank had been up and running for 13 mos...until - his 2 year old bounced a dicast Percy train (Thomas the Train collection), cracking the top of the glass. Nice, huh? He literally added this coral March 1st but cannot get a refund from the LFS. So guess who wound up with this.

Again, any help is appreciated. I was on my way, keeping mushrooms, gsps and colt corals...until this came along.

I have a gonipora aka flowerpot. I don't see that it is any harder to keep than any other coral I have. Two days after I purchased the gonipora my clownfish took to it and is now hosted by the gonipora. I use phytoplankton and occasionally I spot feed mysis shrimp. Although I have to turn a few pumps off because they blow the food around while I'm feeding. Enjoy your gonipora here is a pic! What Type of Coral is This?-dscf0430.jpg

    Just a few questions...

    - how big is your tank
    - how often do you feed phyto / mysis (target feed both or just put in tank?)
    - what type of placement / flow for flower pot are you using
    - how long have you had it
    - is it aggressive; ie, does it seem to annoy other corals

As for mine, I have a 29 g and it's in the middle of the tank on rock w/ med -> strong flow for 3 days. It seems to love it. I have fed with phyto once / mysis once since I have had it. It's not aggressive.

    Thanks!

Re: What Type of Coral is This?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

    I have a 55 gal.
I usually feed the phyto about every three to four days I just squirt phyto in the tank. I spot feed about once a week. I turn the water flow off and just spray the mysis over the top of it with a turkey baster. The clowns try and steal the food so I do this during normal feeding time. I mostly depend on photosynthesis for feeding.
It also sits on the bottom of my tank with low to med flow.
I've had the gonipora for about 8 months and I have it far enough away from other coral so I don't know the aggressiveness of this coral. When I have a question about fish or coral I go to the Dr's Foster & Smith website type the fish or coral in the search box & they give a brief description of them. Hope this info helps.
