    Large Mushroom Coral

Hello all, please excuse me, I'm new to Reefland this is my very first post.
I have recently (two days) ago purchased a very large mushroom leather coral, the head is approx 20 inch across. When i bought it, it was fully open with all its polyps waving around in the flow. I slowly introduced it to my tank and at first it threw a slime off which i expected, but since then its leaning over and the polyps haven't opened. Should i prop it up towards the light or should i let it go through the motions and let it settle in, or should i position a small powerhead to try and encourage it to stand? I have 2 x 150MH and 4 T5 in my 125 gallon tank, i have other mushrooms which are doing ok.

All my levels are good Nitrate 0, Ammonia 0, PH 8.2, Gravity 1.026, Temp 80.

    Thanks
    Mark

    Cool Re: Large Mushroom Coral

Hi Mark B ; I recently purchaced a nice green finger leather and the polyps did not come out for the first 2 weeks to a whole month, now it is bigger than it was at my LFS and the polyps are awesome and all open. Just leave it alone and it will come back to life bigger and better. Happy Reefing!!!!!!

often at times when i introduced corals to my tank even after aclimation and all that fun stuff they still need to ajust to your water parameters give it time its big so prob takes longer then most other corals

    Welcome!
Stool Leather are know to do that.. I would just leave it alone... also bring it down a little (IMO) They usually dont need too much light.. If it start to do worse.. just frag it and at least you will save a couple of frags

    good luck.

    PS whats ur Alk level?

    Re: Large Mushroom Coral

Thanks, my alkalinity was a touch too high, i have done a 20% water change and brought the level down to approx 175, also moved it down in the tank, the leather hasnt really improved over the last few days, the crown is still sagging down. A few polyps have opened but theres areas of the crown that have lost there colour and changed from brown to a creamy yellow colour and the polyps havent opened in this area. There was a lot of slime issues but that seemed to have slowed down. I have added some Kent marine Tech 1 iodine to try to nurse it back to health.

You mentioned fragging it, what would be the best way to do that and would you frag the yellow areas too, or can i just try to remove the bad areas. The fish have now started pick at the leather so i'm guessing its dying.

Thanks again guys, this site is amazing, and i appreciate all your support and feedback.

    Mark
