Need Help Identifying White Algae Type Strands on Aquarium Glass

Can anyone tell me what this could be? I had some green algae on the glass with it and wiped it off with a magnet brush. The white strands came back withing a few hours.

    Thanks in advance

Kind of sounds like a bacterial bloom. If so, it will likely harmlessly run it's course within a few days. Are you carbon/vodka dosing by chance?

    Can you describe your tank/vitals?
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Re: Need Help Identifying White Algae Type Strands on Aquarium Glass

I have just set up a 5"-6" deep sand bed in a 55 gallon aquarium. I have a trickle filter which I gutted and filled with live rock (all submerged) that flows into a refugium and then back to the display tank.

I put the water in, then the sand (.1mm - .5mm, 100lbs), then live sand (.5mm - 1.7mm, 40lbs)then a mix of base rock and live rock on top of that in the display tank. I waited 2 weeks then added a kit from IPSF with bristle worms, mama mia worms, nerite snails, sandbed clams, 6 left handed hermit crabs, mini brittle stars, wondermud, live sand activator and amphipods. I then added about 40 nassarius and cerith snails. I also added 2 serpent stars but they died right away, there were shipped very poorly and I dont think I had a chance with them (not ordering from them anymore).

I have blastomussa coral doing well, and my zoanthids are opening up nicely.

I also have a lawnmower blenny (just added yesterday) to help keep the algae down.

I am running a mag 7 return pump and a koralia 750 gph pump opposite each other for flow.

I am running a T5 light 4 x 54w right on top of the water. The lights are on 10 hours and then moonlights come on. I have recently starting not using the moonlights because I see no critter movement other than the snails.

    Ammonia - 0.35 ppm
    Nitrite - 0
    Nitrate - 0
    pH - 8.2
    SG - 1.025/1.026 (with refractometer)
    Temp 78-82 night/day
I use purified water with no chlorine or chloramine but not RO/DI
