    Frogspawn Babies?

I've got a fairly large FS that's been in my tank for about 6 months now. It had 12 heads when I got it, it's probably up to 16-18 by now. It spent the first 4 months on the sand bed at the far right corner of my tank.

A couple months ago, I moved it to a more central location (still on the sand bed) and made a little semi rock cave for it...seems to like it there. (Excuse the cyano, the seahare lost an argument with the Bi-color Angel last week...was probably dead in the tank for a day or two before I found it)

A few days ago, I notice in the old location, there is a baby.

Now I know you can frag these pretty easily, but I never have. Can/do they spawn in captivity? If not, how did this guy get there?
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

    Re: Frogspawn Babies?

I've heard of tentacles "popping" off of the colony and with luck, forming another head from the loose tissue that lands in the right spot.
I've seen "popped" frogspawn and hammer corals bits floating around in my tank ( haven't seen any in some time though) but never had one colonize.
My Xenia... that's a whole nother story!

That's wild. I suppose if it dropped full head? Is that even possible? How did that sea hare do w/ your cyano?

The cyano was gone for quite a while before I ever put the sea hare in. He was meant for HA, and that's what he did best. The cyano came back with his demise...wish I had noticed it a little sooner.

    Re: Frogspawn Babies?

James, I've seen individual polyps drop off and float around the tank, but nothing seemed to come of it. They were all shriveled up, and I assumed they were dropping off because of the Angels persistsant nipping. Maybe I was wrong on that?

    Re: Frogspawn Babies?

I'm not sure about the cause of yours dropping off but I'm positive mine weren't caused by nipping. I don't know what causes it but did some reading on it when I noticed it in my tank. That's when I vaguely remembered a thread on " the big one" about new growth from dropped pieces. Not 100% though (maybe around 95%). I know new colony growth is very rare but I'm almost positive its happened.
