    Colt Coral Problem

Changed nothing but the water yesterday (10%) change.

    Params are:

    Temp: 79 degrees
    Nitrates - 0
    Phosphate .25
    Calcium: 400
    DKH: 10

No additives or anything - just the water change. And now it looks like it's bleaching! There are no critters anywhere bothering it and I lemon-zapped all the aptasia a while ago that was even remotely close. Any ideas:

    Re: Colt Coral Problem

My Kenya Tree corals (which I believe is very closely related to the Colt) do the same thing every now and again. I've got about a half a dozen stalks that I allow to grow, all other shoots and sprigs get removed before they can take over more real estate. When they do get mad, it's usually just one of them, and they shrink up and turn dark purple. Usually that lasts less than 24 hours, but I've observed 3-4 days on rare occasions. It almost seems like some of them decide to go to war with eachother sometimes. Also, I've noted that toadstool leathers do not like to be in close proximity with KTC. The KTC seems to be the agressor as it never shows any signs of distress when the TS does.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Thanks Adam. I will keep that in mind with my toadstool tool. I recently made some more real estate as my feather duster decided to move b/c the clown was bugging the hell out of it. After seeing how your TS grew though, I am going to reserve that space until later use. Hope your FW tank is coming along well. I sent you some videos of the ponds.

Its simply amazing the way lots of these softies have an extensiveamount of biological turpinoids, etc. and when you have a couple of different species together, they can just do some odd things if they feel threatened in the least, I think its just fascinating!!!!!

Agreed. I actually trained my GSPs to grow up the glass and it's amazing what even a little current does to these at night, nonetheless
