    New here!!!! 150 gallon build

Hello! Im new to this forum and just wanted to start a thread about the 150 gallon tank I am in the middle of building!

Just some back ground info...... I have had a 29 gallon FOWLR tank set up for about 2 years now with great success ( with you occasinal baddle with alge). I currently have 2 clowns one of which is hosting a BTA...... I also have a coral banded shrimp with a few very small peices of coral.
The equipment on the tank is a heater , HOB protein skimmer, fulval 405 cansiter filter and a In-tank 9W U.V sterlizer. The type of lighting I have is T5 H.O 2 bulb cora life fixture.

Now for the reason I started this thread...... I am currently building a 150 gallon reef tank ( I got tierd of the 29 being so small ) The tank is 48x24x30 so it is pretty deep but I got a awsome deal on it! I custom made the stand so that it would be big enough for all my "wet" equipment. I currently have a sump on order from truvuaquariums.com that should be here next week! The protein skimmer is going to be reef octopuss sx 200. I just ordered today a dual GFO and carbon reactor from bulk reef supply. As far as flow goes I'll be ordering 2 vortech mp 40's and some nano pumps(for the hard to reach places)...... my lighting setup I think im going with is the 48" outer orbit HQI 2-250W and 4- 54W with 9 white and blue moon lights. The lights, heater and pumps are going to be put onto a Reef keeper pro Net aquarium controller so I can see what is going on with my levels when I am not home. Also My pumps, Return pump and skimmer will be going on a API battery back-up so if I loose power water will still flow! I look foward to sharing this with all of you and please all suggestions and critisim is more than welcome!

Welcome to reefland! Glad you found us.Be sure to post plenty of pics! We can't get enough of em. This should be good. Love the toys you've listed so far. I just got a RKL but seriously considered the pro kit. The net module is trick. Mp40's are really nice but way out of my price range. Looking forward to the build and don't forget to charge up the camera batteries!

Are you going to be painting or covering the back of the tank? The only reason I ask is because my QT is next to my sliding glass door and if I let direct sunlight hit the tank, I get major algea. Mostly cyano but that's probably because the QT doesn't get "reef spec" water quality and flow.

What kind of holes do they give you in that overflow? Looking forward to tracking your progress, I really like build threads!

Re: New here!!!! 150 gallon build

muttley000 they give me a corner overflow with two 1" holes. This weekend I got my tank plumed. It didnt really come out exactly as I hoped I wanted to tee off my drain line so I could add a ball valve for easy water changes but did not have enough room. I hoping to order RODI filter in the next couple of days and put some water in this baby!. Today I got a piece of acrylic and I am going to put it on the bottom of the tank to protect the glass from the rocks. I am also going to sillicone the acrylic around the edge to prevent all the crud from going under it

    What is your incoming TDS?

I'm coming up on 7 months of use for mine, and still getting 0 TDS output. Just wondering how much longer I've got.

I run between 15-20 gallons a week, and the incoming TDS is between 150-180. I'm using a Buckeye Field Supply 4 stage 75gpd.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

My tap TDS is around 300. I probably use 30-40 gallons a week between the QT and DT. 10g WC on the DT and 5 on the QT. I've also done a couple large water changes and change over 80% on the QT everytime I get a new fish. I was reading 8 on theTDS when I changed to the dual DI canisters.
