Tangs should be kept in much larger tanks than that in my opinion. 180+ for a yellow.

    Re: Quick fish question

Well, it kinda goes like this. The Yellow Tang is not going to grow overnight, he will be fine in that space for awhile, but will outgrow it. the 100 gallon tank they are referring to is 5' long instead of 4', its the swim space they need. But, again, usually when they are first bought, they are about 3", so it will take a long time for them to get to 8", and thus having to be removed for a larger tank.

Depends on whether you want to run a reef tank or a fish only tank.

There are a couple colorful dwarf angels that come to mind, but they are generally iffy in reef tanks, and they dont get along with other butterflyfish, so the threadfin would be out. How about a firefish? Bangaii cardinal?

If it's just a fish only tank, I'd look at angels, wrasses and triggers if you're after dramatic coloring. I'm just not sure many of those would be ok in the community you're already planning.

    Hello,
Is that a misprint? Is your tank really 57" tall? If so then your tank is 140+ gallons. That size would be fine as long as the tang is added last and you don't get a real aggressive one. Yellow tang personalities vary greatly from timid to very aggressive so you may have to try a few to get one that works. The majority of Yellow Tangs will not have a problem with the fish on your list except the Butterfly. If the Butterfly is well established (2-3 months) and then the tang is added they are usually fine together.
