received live rock in the mail completly dry .. . am I doomed ?

Well I ordered 40 lbs of live rock online from liveaqua.com and it came with half an inch of water at the bottom. and a broken Styrofoam container that was cracked at the bottom, and a soggy cardboard box ...

It was shipped overnight... It's 98 degrees outside, I was home to receive the package, but still, the ups or fedex trucks aren't ac'ed

Will I be just fine ?> should I ask for money back ?

    Thoughts .. . .

Na, your ok. Bound to have some die off anyways. No worries. It'll cycle no problem.

    OK thanks !

How do I know when the rock has "CURED" or is safe to put fish back in ?

will I really get an ammonia spike from the rock like the instructions say ?

When your Ammonia is 0 Nitrite is 0 and your Nitrates are at least below 20. Then you know its fully cured and the tank is ready for fish. Time frame is around 4-6 weeks.

Wait days and/or weeks. Not hours.

OK, My tank fully cycled about two weeks ago, and the rock has been in there 2 days. everything still reads 0 ...

It is still advised to wait a few weeks until I will see ANOTHER ammonia spike ?

Is there any chance I will have no spike at all ?

Ok, your tank cycled, but now you just added a biological to the water, there will be some change as the life in the rocks starts to pop up, then everything may go through a mini cycle, and not add a bunch of numbers to your spike. Could you go through and not see a spike, not likely if you just added all that rock at once, and it ran dry. It may be a small mini cycle, and that may make you happier that its not going to be 6 weeks. I'd wait a week just for good measure to see what you numbers do, Ammonia is the very bad one you don't want in the tank when you add fish.. Then you should only go small at first to introduce fish.

I agree except I would wait at least 2 weeks because of the amount of rock added. I would test daily so you don't miss any spikes. If the readings on ammonia and nitrite stay 0 for the entire 2 weeks, add your CUC and wait another 2 weeks and so on. That's just me though. If, say, you read .25ppm ammonia on day 4, start the 2 week clock after the numbers reach 0 again.
