    8'x24"x24" tank
2 175w Metal Halide 14k Lamps. Batwing Reflectors modified, allow me to almost cover the entire tank.
Love the effect on the water, and I keep most everything I want to under those lights.
    No Actinics
12" White Moon lighting over center of tank.

12x48x20 tank with 4x48" T5's, half actinic and half 10k's. Chose them based on value and efficiency.

I use instant ocean salts and add calcium and magnesium to my own spec.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

48x18x20 IceCap T5HO 6x54w + 2 LED tube fixture. 3x ATI blue+, 1x ATI purple+, 1x ATI aquablue special and 1x Coralife true actinic. Love the looks of the blue+ and aquablue special. Still on the fence about the purple+. Got the Coralife actinic on clearance for $4. I also use Instant Ocean with Cal and Mag added. I only use IO because all the aquariums I've seen (except the ones fed by the ocean) and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom use it (they have a killer whale and dolphins there). SeaWorld, Orlando; Shedd Aquarium, Chicago; Wonders of Wildlife Museum, Springfield, Ill.; Columbus (Ohio) Zoo & Aquarium; the (Atlanta) Georgia Aquarium; The Dallas World Aquarium; Underwater Adventure in the Mall of America, Minnesota; Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas; the Denver Zoo are some of the institutions that use IO salt.If it's good enough for multimillion dollar facilities, it's good enough for me. P.S. I stole that list off of the Instant Ocean website.

40 gallon mixed reef. Aquaticlife 4x48 T5HO with 8 lunar LEDs. I've got mostly softies, zoas, and lps. Couple prices of sps too though and they seem to be doing great under the T5s. I'm lucky here in southern California and my lfs carries ocean water from Catalina so I don't even mix my own. I just use brightwell aquatics reef building two part calcium and magnesium buffer. Once a week I add a dKH superbuffer to help keep the three in balance.
