    A sad return from vacation

Well, I returned from vacation about 10 mins ago to find most of my coral dead. Frogspawn, Acro, Acan all dead. My xenia, zoa's, duncan, gsp, are all touch and go it seems. my BTA is the same. The fish and inverts all seem ok though thankfully. I left the tank in the hands of a friend who has watched it before and all was well, but it seems there was a major temp spike up to 90 yesterday and nothing was done about it until my gf returned home and she cooled the tank down but too little too late i guess...Im so sad but such is life I suppose.

Well I think the xenia, bta, duncan, and small zoo frags will be ok. My fire and ice zoa's are still touch and go but I think will pull through for the most part. I'm still really sad about my frogspawn, acan and Acro though, but it had to happen at some point right? Something had to go wrong sooner than later...I just hope I don't lose the fire and ice rock, that was a really nice piece, like the frogspawn.

Noob, sad to hear. My colt is still dropping arms like it's no one's business. If you want a few frags, PM me your address and I will ship them into enemy territory, wrapped in a Bucky Dent t-shirt, as soon as I find some more arms in places they shouldn't be.

Thank you for the offer! Depending on if the Xenia ends up pulling through, I may not want to bring that colt in haha, but if the xenia dies out then I may take you up on that offer...Looks like the GSP, duncan and my really small zoa are all in the clear...fire and ice zoa, xenia and BTA, all questionable. Only time will tell I guess. I did a water change, params are all back to where they should be, so hopefully things will come back to life!

Look at it this way... there are probably thousands of corals being shipped now to LFS stores all over the world in this ridiculous heat. Depending on how they are packaged, they may endure similar conditions yours did while you were away. I hope yours bounce back.

I'm curious - did you test your water before this water change, and if so, what did you find "wrong'?

Re: A sad return from vacation

I did, I had noticed my amonia was spiking a little bit and i figured it was from the dead corals seeing as how all my fish were alive and it was all 0 before I left so I didn't want to risk anything. I'll post an update when I get home from work in a few hours on how the rest of the corals are doing.

Re: A sad return from vacation

Things are not going well...The GSP and Duncan are fine, BTA, Fire and Ice, Xenia..not so much, still very touch and go, although I think the Xenia will pull through and with a lot of time so will the fire and ice zoas. And sadly I woke up to a dead cleaner shrimp this morning...Unless it was molting, as I did see it begin to molt last night before I went to sleep, but I don't imagine its an 8 hour process where it ends up looking dead, the worst part of it all, I had to rush out of the house this morning for work so I did not have time to remove the shrimp, just enough time to see it dead, yell a loud obcene curse word and run out the door to catch my train....
