Im also on Long Island, its starting to pick up here now on the north shore. I have a small power invertor for my car and i plan on just running an air pump with a gangvalve to keep my 2 tanks alive (1fresh 1reef). Hopefully its not out long enough where i have to worry about filtration and lighting.
There is a great read on this at worldaquarium.net/hurricane
Some shots from my yard. Thinking this is going to be a problem.

Hope everyone made out OK.
Stupid people do stupid things...smart people outsmart each other.
Wow Chris. Looks like Irene wasn't kind to your fence or that tree. Hope the damage wasn't too bad. I gotta tell ya. I don't know how you guys do it with hurricanes and such. Us Cali boys only have to worry about an earthquake swallowing us once every 30 years. Yous guys take a beating annually or more.

+1 fomo...I've been so scared for a quake since I got my tank, but I guess it beats annual threats.
we just had a quake over on the east coast last week too. it was a 5.8 in richmond, i dont know what was felt here on long island. it deffinalty shook us good though, enough to scare me to run home and check on my live rock on lunch break.
I guess no ones safe! I swear, if we get a hurricane on the west coast, I'm moving to Canada.
-James-
That quake shook us up in south jersey pretty good.
I think I'll take the chance of hurricane over quakes anyday
I'm a transplant to CA...New England born and raised.
It's funny to hear both sides saying the same thing. Californians can't imagine living with NE weather, and New Englanders are scared to death of earthquakes.
I'd take either of those over the heartland where tornados can just drop out of the sky without warning...I spent a couple years in Northern Mississippi, and nothing scares me like a twister.
It doesn't really matter where you go...there's always something. Wildfires, flooding, dust storms, lightning...

Haha...moose attack. That is now my biggest fear. Earthquakes got nothing on a huge moose attack...
Ive been on the East coast my whole life, Mid-Atlantic most of my life where cane season is just another day of dealing with the norm, recently moved up to Boston last year and did not expect a hurricane at all haha but it was not nearly as bad as the ones we would get back home.
I've also spent some time on the west coast and slept through a couple quakes, I was awake for one too. I recently felt the one here on the East coast and it was not too bad, (Granted I was 500 miles away from the center)
Either way though, Ill take a cane over a quake any day.
Hope you guys survived the storm!
