    Sebae Anemone Question

Worried about my Seabae Anemone. Had only for ~2 months. 72g, 100lbs LR, under 250 MH lighting, flow ~8x volume.

I have read that they are bleached if they are white or even a yellowish color (which mine is). I am worried that my anemone may be dying. Looks to be losing size and length of tentacles. It is (and has always been) situated towards the bottom of my tank. ~18in below light.

Thing is this anemone is still firmly attached to LR (actually really hasn't moved much since introduced to tank). Last thing I want is to kill off everything in the tank.

Can an anemone be dead and still attached to a rock? Mouth looks very open and again, tentacles look deflated at times but no odor or the look of the anemone turning itself "inside out".

    Any suggestions about this? Thanks
    Best of luck,
    Matt

Sounds like he's mad about something, but alive yes. He'll move if he does not like where he's at, you don't have to. And its better that you don't mess with him. When was the last time he ate? What are you feeding him? And thye must have prestine water conditions. What are your water parameters? The lighting you have is strong enough no worries there.

Thanks for the input. Still VERY worried. Complete downward spiral over the last two months IMO. You're right. I will not move him as that may stress him out further. I am still very worried about him. As I am writing this, I checked and he has moved to another corner of the tank and I cannot tell if he has a secure footing.

    Water Test Results:
    PH 8.0
    A 0
    NI 0
    NA 10
    Salinity 1.024

Feeding half of a silverside 1-2x a week. Last time he ate was two days ago.
    Best of luck,
    Matt

Foot attached. Could be a new powerhead I added yesterday that made him move. Still doesn't look the best. Tentacles deflated. Positioned itself in the back of the tank, between a piece of glass and LR with his mouth towards the glass. Current appears less strong at this location. Lighting is about the same.
    Best of luck,
    Matt

    Re: Sebae Anemone Question

For anything besides basic water testing, I take it to a friend of mine and also a LFS in the area. For phosphates, my buddy indicated they were normal, and after clarification he told me they were near zero. In terms of alkalinity, I do an alkalinity test every few weeks and they use a measure of "drops". I was told anywhere between 8-11 "drops" is normal. I read that sebae anemones prefer higher alkalinity, so over time I have increased the alkalinity to 12. I do not know calcium readings.

Very hesitant to do anything at this point except wait and see. I think that time will tell. Of course, always open to any suggestions to increase the chances of survival for the little guy.
    Best of luck,
    Matt

    Re: Sebae Anemone Question

Update: RIP Sebae. Found him dead when I got home from a business trip. Strong smell, not attached, etc. I did a 20% water change after removal.

It is times like these when I question this hobby. Doubt that I will keep another nem in any tank.
    Best of luck,
    Matt

    Sorry to hear that,

One thing I've noticed is pictures help if you aren't sure if something is right.
