    Parameter readings!!

    KH = 7dKH
    PO4 = 0.03 ppm (installed phosoban yesterday)
    pH = 8.4NO3 = 5ppm
    NO2 = 0.02ppm
    Calcium = 580ppm
    Sg = 1.026
    temp 25.7 degrees celcius

    i know that i have high calcium levels (i am not dosing anything)....is it true if i increase the KH levels to around 9, calcium will get slightly lower?
    i dont know why im having that 0.02ppm No2 reading!! my tank was cycled well (readings were 0 before)

    any comments please!?
    thanks

    Other way around. A Calcium Corbonate will affect the KH. Calcium, KH, GH, pH, Electrolytes & Magnesium in Aquariums; Mineral Ions, Cations
    You did not list your Ammonia. But your Trites up, Trates can come from overfeeding or trapped detrius. High CA, you using tap water?

    my ammonia is 0...
    so if i increase my KH to at least 9dKH will it be better? or its better if i leave it around 7?
    my mistake was that i used tap water as a top up to evaporation....in fact my tank is full with diatomes and brownish algae!!...according to what i read it means that i have high silica (i dont have a test kit to test silica) but 99% it is cause of the silica..how can less the silica levels? is water changes enough or?

    thanks

    The algae and junk comes form Phosphate in tap water. You have already added a phos remover, you should be ok.

    I believe that DKH should be between 8-12, in which case your fine.

    I am not entirely sure on this response (as it's based on memory) but I believe the higher dKH will buffer your PH a little better but the overall difference between 7 and 9 will have a negligible effect on the Calcium levels. Of course, achieving the right balance between Calcium, DKH and Magnesium is desirable for other reasons.

    thanks for those sites Reefing madness!!...
    thanks chris as welll.....i will leave everything as it is than.....just i will keep in mind the dKH will never be below 7

    wish me luck in fighting this ugly green/brown algae!! in these last 2 years my tank never suffered with this type of algae...but i learnt by mistakes!! never top up with tap water!!

    thanks
