    Ultimate REEF care!

Hey guys! I want ULTIMATE reef care for my 100g reef aquarium! First off, I want to begin asking you this, would it be smart to buy ALL those supplements on that page and dose them to my tank in amounts they recommend? + is this all I need to dose to the aquarium to kept hard coral fed? as for soft coral, do I feed them mysis shrimp and brine shrimp? Is AlgaGen Coral Smoothie from any good and nutritious for Coral? (Please actually take a look at the smoothie and it's ingredients at )

Then, How much do QT's usually cost altogether? Thinking about getting a 10gal QT. I never did my math on that subject.. and do I need to QT corals when I first get them? What is the minimum medicine brands **FOR NEWLY ACQUIRED FISH AND CORAL** I absolutely REQUIRE? - Formalin and Cupramin? I know the whole process of Leebca's acclimation and freshwater dip.

    Re: Ultimate REEF care!

    Hello,
It is not recommended to add any supplements unless you have quality test kits for them. These are the parameters for stony corals and the minerals that need to be monitored:
    Salinity 35ppt/ SPG 1.025- 1.026
    Nitrates 0 ppm
    Calcium 380-425 ppm
    Alkalinity 8-9 dKH
    Magnesium 1200-1300 ppm.
Water flow rates of 20-30 times tank volume are also very important.

If you purchase stony corals from a reputable dealer quarantine and chemical baths are not required.

It is not recommended to keep stony and soft corals together. They do not occur in the same environments in nature and can lead to problems long term (3+ years). Many soft corals grow too fast others produce compounds (terpenes) that can be toxic to stony corals and others need heavy feedings that some stony corals find intolerable. The vast majority of nutritional requirements of stony corals can be met with just high output lighting. Some LPS stony corals will need supplemental feeding but these will need to be addressed on a case by case basis. For SPS stony corals very small amounts of small particulate foods (Cyclopeeze, Rotifeast, Oyster Feast, etc.) can be added sparingly. Different corals require different types, sizes, and amounts so research needs to be done before purchasing each coral. Aquarium Corals is a good book to start with.

A rule of thumb is $15/gallon for a marine setup.

Accurate Information on fish care can be found in this forum: "Marine Fish: Care, Health and Disease Treatment".

    Regards,
    Kevin
