    Need Anomone ID Please

This guy can into my tank hidden in live rock. Once I saw him, I took pics of him to the LFS. They thought he might be some type of bubble nem but I'm not sure what he is so I'm someone out there can ID him for me. He has been in my tank for 7 months now, he hasn't moved and he has not split or reproduced in any way. He has grown but in a gradual manner and he is still small for a nem. Any ideas?

How big is it? I did an image search on majano and found some that look similar. Can't be sure though. Typically, hitchhiker nems, that stay small are pests. Manjano nems come in many different colors and are often described as small bubble tip nems.

    Re: Need Anomone ID Please

At this point it's got a oral disk of about 1 inch diameter and tentacles of about 1.5-2 inches. The tentacles do not get small and stringy, they stay inflated but sometimes the tips will get stringy. I first saw it about 7 months ago and it was tiny so the measurements are after 7 months growth. I have not seen it bother any of my fish, inverts, or coral and it does not move around my tank. I have not found another like it in my tank. When I first set up my tank, I did find Aiptasia and it was the kind that looks like a stringy bamboo tree. I got rid of it by removing the rock that it was attached to. I have pepermint shrimp and they have not bothered it. I can see that some nems in the Aiptasia family resemble it but when I look at the oral disk, it is not the same. I agree, it could be a deep sea nem. Hopefully I can get an ID. I'm not keeping it if it is Aiptasia but I hate to kill it if it isn't.

Anyone have experience with Aiptasia that doesn't split and spread? (I am researching the majano's).

    Thanks
    Beth

Smile Re: Need Anomone ID Please

Well, I ended up taking the rock out and drying it out to kill the anemone. I decided it was a pest but couldn't get it out of the rock it was in so best plan (to avoid multiplication from me trying to kill it), kill everything on the rock and start it over. Will be reseeding it soon. Thanks for all your help everyone.
