    Remove Fluval 405??????

I have had my fluval 405 running in my system since it has been up ( check my info). I don't want to say it has brought me problems but I'm really getting sick of cleaning it out! I really don't run any media in it anymore other than activated carbon sometimes. I have a phosban reactor. Other then the mesh filters that have to go on it I really don't see much of a need. I do see detritus and amphipods when I do clean it out but I have a sock that filters the sump. Is it enough if I take the fluval out and just replace the socks when they are clogged ? Is the detritus not being filtered by the fluval end up in my tank or can the sock take care of this with fast replacement? Thanks for the help! By the way my tank is running well and I don't want to mess with that but getting sick of fluval! Thanks again!

Den...how much live rock do you have? Reason being - i used to run a 305 on mine and also got sick of cleaning it out. But i had to add more lr to compensate for the loss of the filter. I suppose that if your levels are in check and you have an adequate amount of live rock you can go the same route i did.
Stupid people do stupid things...smart people outsmart each other.

+1. Pretty much if you have at least 1lb per gallon your safe to remove the filter. I run no filter on mine. If you have a big enough skimmer and enough Live ROck, your system is fine without the added help of a filter, unless you were to run carbon or GFO or something of that nature in it, but you already run a reactor. I say ditch it.
